Fertility treatment

For Same Sex Couples

Fertility treatment For Same Sex Couples

Many same-sex couples who come to our clinic are able to have children without facing fertility issues. They often choose the simplest fertility treatments available, such as
Artificial Insemination (IUI) or IVF treatment. Both treatments
involve retrieving donor sperm to conceive.

What is IUI?

This method places prepared sperm directly into the womb at the right time for pregnancy to occur. Sometimes, medication is given to help release more eggs.

What is IVF?

IVF for gay couples involves taking medication to produce more eggs, which are then taken out and mixed with donor sperm in a lab. A special technique called ICSI injects a single sperm into each egg. After growing in the lab for 5 days, the embryo is placed back into the woman.

Selecting Your Sperm Donor

You can use sperm donated by someone you know, or choose one of our anonymous donors. If you choose a sperm donor from our clinic, you’ll get to look at a list of all the available donors.

You can see detailed forms filled out by the donors about themselves and their families, including what they look like and their family health history.

IVF

For Single Women

IVF For Single Women

For single women, IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation) can open doors to motherhood, providing a path to pregnancy without the need for a male partner. There are two main routes that single women can take if they wish to have a successful pregnancy.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

IUI involves placing sperm into the uterus using a small tube just before ovulation. It’s important to note that the suitability of donor sperm for IUI can vary based on sperm quality and quantity.

Single Parent IVF

Single Parent IVF, is a procedure where fertility medications are administered to stimulate the growth of multiple eggs (typically ranging from 5 to 10). These eggs are then retrieved from the ovaries and combined with donor sperm in a laboratory using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), where a single sperm is directly injected into each egg. The resulting embryos are cultured in the laboratory for 5 days before being transferred back to your uterus.

Other options for
single women

If you’re not prepared to begin a family just yet, you may consider preserving your eggs via freezing. This can help safeguard your fertility and increase your chances of a successful pregnancy in the future.

We also offer this treatment, and would be happy to go through all details with you in your consultation.

Fertility Treatment Costs

Medicare offers rebates for fertility treatment only when there’s a medical issue. Additionally, there are expenses associated with the preparation of sperm donors.

If you’re thinking about using the donor program as same-sex parents, we encourage you to talk to us to determine your eligibility for rebates and to get a clear understanding of fertility treatment expenses.
