What is
Ovulation Induction?

Ovulation Tracking and Induction are often the initial steps in assisting women to achieve pregnancy, particularly when they face challenges such as lack of ovulation or highly irregular menstrual cycles. These methods are designed to provide a clearer understanding of the fertility cycle or to stimulate ovulation, thereby enhancing the chances of conception.

Our specialists are dedicated to guiding and supporting you through this process, with the goal of making your journey towards pregnancy as smooth and successful as possible.

When To Consider

An Ovulation Induction

OI/OT is used for the following reasons:

To Stimulate Ovulation

In cases where you are not ovulating naturally, OI helps in stimulating the ovaries to release eggs.

To Regulate Irregular Cycles

OI/OT can be beneficial for you if you have highly irregular menstrual cycles.

To Enhance Fertility Treatments

Often used as a preliminary step in more complex fertility treatments like IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation).

To Identify Fertile Windows

OT helps in pinpointing the most fertile days in your cycle, increasing the chances of natural conception.

If You Have PCOS

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) often causes irregular or absent ovulation.

To Plan Pregnancy

Assists you in planning your pregnancy by providing a clearer understanding of your ovulation patterns.

Before
Your First Consultation

We’ll do a blood test to see if you’re ovulating. After talking with your fertility specialist, you might have more tests like a HSG (hysterosalpingogram) to check that your fallopian tubes are open, and we’ll also look at a semen analysis.

This all helps us understand your situation better before we start OI/OT treatments

Will I Need Medication To Stimulate Ovulation?

Letrozole is a common medication we use for ovulation. It’s helpful if you’re not ovulating regularly or if your menstrual cycles are long or irregular. Letrozole works by stopping a certain enzyme from changing testosterone into oestrogen.

This encourages your brain to release more FSH (follicle stimulating hormone). FSH helps the little sacs in your ovaries (called follicles) to grow – and inside these follicles is an egg. By helping the follicles grow, we aim to get them to the right size to trigger ovulation.

What Happens When

You Undergo An OI Cycle?

What Happens When You Undergo An OI Cycle?

During your treatment cycle, we’ll keep a close eye on how things are going with regular ultrasounds and/or blood tests. This is to see how many follicles are growing and to help lower the chances of a multiple pregnancy.

Usually, you take Letrozole from day 3 to 7 of your cycle, and then you’ll have an ultrasound between days 8 and 11 with your fertility specialist. During this ultrasound, we’ll let you know when you’re likely to ovulate and the best time for “timed intercourse.”

It’s good to remember that an egg only lives for about 12 hours after ovulation, sometimes up to 18 hours, and it needs to be fertilised during this time. Sperm can live for 2-3 days, sometimes even up to 5 days. So, having sex just before you ovulate is usually the best approach.
